Privacy policy
Last updated:
This policy explains what information is handled when you use the ASVAB Camp website at asvabcamp.com and the ASVAB Camp app for Android (together, the "services"). We built both to work without accounts: you never give us your name, email address or a password to study.
On this page
The short version
- No sign-up, no accounts, no profile.
- Your answers, scores, flashcard marks and settings stay on your own device. We do not receive them.
- The website uses Google Analytics, and the app uses Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics, to count use, see which features are used and fix crashes. They do not tell us who you are.
- Ads are served by Google (AdSense on the website, AdMob in the app). Where the law requires it, you are asked for consent first.
- Purchases in the app are handled by Google Play. We never see your payment details.
- Translations in the app run on your phone. On the website, text you choose to translate is sent to Google Translate.
Information we do not collect
We do not ask for or store your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, location or any other personal details to use the services. There are no comment boxes, forums or chat features.
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write, and use it only to answer you. We delete support emails when they are no longer needed.
Information kept on your device
Website. The site saves a few small settings in your browser's local storage: your chosen language, day or night mode, the flashcards you marked "got it", the lessons you opened, your last score on each practice test, and whether you closed the app banner. Answers to practice questions and timed tests are checked in your browser and are not saved or sent anywhere. You can clear this data at any time in your browser settings.
App. The app stores your study progress in a database on your phone: lessons opened and completed, answers, test history, review queue, bookmarks, flashcard schedule, your Energy balance, purchases restored from Google Play and settings such as language and text size. It is not sent to us. Deleting the app deletes it; Settings > Reset my progress deletes the study history.
Server logs and content delivery
The lessons and questions in the app are built into the app itself: the app does not download study content from us, and you can study offline. When the app opens an asvabcamp.com lesson or practice-test link directly (Android App Links), nothing is sent to us for that.
The websites (asvabcamp.com and this legal site) and our purchase verification server are hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web server, Cloudflare automatically records technical request data such as IP address, device and browser type, the address requested and the time. This data is used to deliver the services, keep them secure and stop abuse, and is kept only as long as the provider needs it for those purposes.
App analytics and crash reports
The app uses Google Firebase Analytics to understand how it is used: app opens and session length, which screens and features are used, the app version, device model, operating system version, language and approximate country, linked to an app instance ID and, where available, your device's advertising ID. It uses Firebase Crashlytics to receive a report when the app crashes or hits a serious error: the error and the code where it happened, device model, operating system version, app version and a crash-specific installation ID. We use this only to improve the app and fix problems. Your answers, scores and study history are not sent.
Firebase is a Google service; data is processed under Firebase's privacy and security terms. You can reset your advertising ID or opt out of ads personalisation in your phone's settings.
Website analytics
The website uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how it is used: which pages are opened, how people arrive (for example from a search engine), the type of device and browser, the approximate country or city, and simple interactions on the page. Google Analytics uses cookies or similar identifiers for this (see the cookie page). We look only at totals and trends; we do not use it to identify you, and we do not send it your answers, scores or anything you type.
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, analytics cookies are not set until you allow them; until then Google receives only cookieless measurements. You can block Google Analytics on every site with Google's opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser. Learn more in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
Advertising
The services are free to use because they show ads.
- Website: ads, when shown, are served by Google AdSense.
- App: ads are served by Google AdMob, including optional rewarded videos you can choose to watch for Energy. AdMob may collect your device's advertising ID, IP address and information about ad interactions to show and measure ads and to prevent fraud.
Google and its partners may use cookies, the advertising ID or similar technologies to show ads based on your use of these and other sites and apps. See How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. You can turn off personalised ads in My Ad Center, reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings, or opt out of some vendors at aboutads.info.
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and in US states whose laws require it, a consent or privacy message from Google appears before personalised ads are used. You can change your choice later: on the website from the consent message link, in the app under Settings > Ad privacy choices.
Premium in the app removes all ads.
Purchases in the app
Premium and any Energy packs are bought through Google Play. Google processes the payment under its own privacy policy; we never receive your card or bank details, your name or your email address. Google tells the app that a purchase was made and gives it a purchase token.
To confirm that a purchase is genuine, the app sends the product ID and this purchase token to our verification server at verify.asvabcamp.com, a Cloudflare Worker. The server asks the Google Play Developer API whether the purchase is valid, acknowledges it with Google if needed, and returns only whether the purchase is valid to the app. The server has no database and does not store the token or the product ID. Cloudflare keeps its standard request logs for the server (such as the time, IP address, the address requested and the response status), which we can view for a short period to find errors; the request body with the token is not written to them. The purchase token is also stored on your phone, so the app can confirm and restore your purchase later. The token does not identify you by name.
Translation
App: menus and the optional translation help are translated on your phone with Google ML Kit. The first time you choose a language, the app downloads a language pack from Google; the text being translated stays on the device.
Website: if you choose a language other than English, the text of the page you are reading is sent to Google Translate to be translated, and the result is shown under the English text. Do not use the translation feature if you do not want page text sent to Google. The site does not send anything you type.
Children
The services are a study aid for people preparing for the ASVAB, which high school students can take from the 10th grade (the ASVAB Career Exploration Program) and which is generally taken for enlistment from age 17. The services are intended for users aged 13 and over. They are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, write to us and we will delete it.
Your choices and rights
Because we do not hold an account or profile about you, there is normally nothing for us to access, correct or delete: your study data is on your device and you control it. You can still contact us with any request, including requests under the GDPR, the UK GDPR or US state privacy laws such as the CCPA. We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, other than the ad providers described above whose choices you can control.
Security and transfers
Connections to the services use encryption (HTTPS). Our providers, including Google and Cloudflare, may process technical data in the United States and other countries, under their own safeguards for international transfers.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version is posted on this page with a new "last updated" date. Significant changes are also mentioned in the app's update notes.
